Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and EbonyLife Place partnered with Kaffy’s Imagneto to stage EkoDance.
The live dance extravagance was staged recently to create greater awareness of the importance of dance in Nigerian culture and to give a platform to some of the most exciting dance companies from Lagos and beyond. EkoDance featured some of Nigeria’s most talented dance groups, including Lagos State Standing Troupe, Leap of Dance, Magnets, Chrysolite Crew, Addicted to Dance among others.
Kaffy lauded the Lagos state government and Ebonylife for the initiative, saying that ‘dance’ in Nigeria was underrated. “I’m always happy to serve because I believe this country deserves a platform of expression, most of the negativity you’re hearing all around is because there is too much energy, we need a place for that energy to go and if we don’t direct it, it goes to the wrong place. Dance is underrated, this is a place where mental energy is expressed and diffused, this is a place where rehabilitation, reformation, networking, and young kids can see other kids behave in a certain way because dance is a form of discipline. Dance can unite everybody.”
In her words, the Hon. Commissioner of Tourism, Arts & Culture Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, said that the time was right for the event because many people forget the importance of dance in promoting the culture.
